Frank Annoh-Dompreh, a member of parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, has requested a decrease in transportation costs in light of the sharp decline in the cost of petroleum products.

He argued that it is exceedingly unfair and worrisome that transportation companies haven’t reduced their rates despite falling gas costs at the pump and the stability of the cedi.

Therefore, he encouraged the government to implement policies to ensure that transportation costs are decreased.

“In recent times we see and read consistent reductions in these products and it is gratifying that the dollar is also struggling to contain the strength of the cedi, these are all good times, however, I am not too happy when the ex-pump price of these products is going down and yet the drivers and operators fail to pay attention to this consistent reduction in the price of such products,” he said in Parliament.

The Institute for Energy Security (IES) forecasts that prices for petroleum goods would drop dramatically starting this Friday, December 16, 2022.

The predicted price cuts would be substantial, according to IES, as a result of the cedi’s 6.60% strengthening against the US dollar.

According to the report, the new pricing for gasoline and diesel will be between 13 and 16 cents per liter, while liquefied petroleum gas will cost between 12 and 13 cents per kilogram.
