John Dramani Mahama, the former president of Ghana, has not made up his mind regarding whether or not he will run for the NDC’s flagbearer position and lead the party into the 2024 elections.
However, he claims that a choice will be made on the matter early in the next year, in time for the NDC to choose a flagbearer.
In an interview with VOA’s Straight Talk Africa on the 12th of October, Mahama stated that he has not yet made up his mind on running for flagbearer, but added that it is always a good idea to keep your rival guessing.
Mahama was asked if he intended to run for office again in the 2024 elections, to which he replied, I haven’t,” to laughs.
“its good to keep your opponents guessing so even if i am not running, i m not going to say i am not running. So a decision will be taken early next year in the first quarter. That’s when we hold our party’s primaries for the presidential candidacy and the we will see.”
However, in a May 2022 interview with Uganda-based NBS television, Mahama declared his desire to serve as the NDC’s leader through the 2024 elections, provided the party will let him.
“my country has given me so much, educated me, and made me who i am. So if the party lets me stand, i will. The main priority is winning the election come 2024, and if the party decides that i or someone else should stand, its fine with me”
Now all that remains to be seen is if Mahama will vie for the NDC’s flag-bearer position and guide the party to the 2024 elections at next year’s Primaries.
