The cantilever roof on a section of the Koforidua Jackson Park development project collapsed on two construction workers, injuring them. After a brief downpour that lasted a few minutes, one of the stands’ roofs collapsed.

The Koforidua Government Hospital is currently caring for the two.

Residents who saw the accident expressed worries about using the park once it was finished and questioned the quality of the project’s work.

“My school is just behind, we heard the sound, and we got worried only to realise that it was from this place. Work hasn’t completed yet, but it’s already falling off. How can I have the courage to use the recreational facility when it is completed?” one eyewitness said.

“I am just surprised,” another said. “The thing was raised too high. Assuming they had finished and people were using it, it would have been a disaster.”

Some also blamed the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly for supervising substandard construction.

“It is unfortunate that the government invested money into this new project, and it has just collapsed. I doubt the competence of the contractor. I am shocked and blame the Assembly.”

“The Assembly must take lessons from this incident and ensure that something similar does not happen in future”, another resident said.
